JRA-Juvenile Rehabilitation Adminstration
This program is designed to lure youth away form gang behaviors and substance abuse. Sunnyside's Promise has two case managers for students.....one at the Sunnyside High School (Raul Abrego) and one at the Harrison Middle School (David Hinojosa). The students referred to Sunnyside's Promise can agree to work with the organization to recieve mentoring, counseling, or whatever is determined to be the youngster's individual needs. Those students recieving referrals due to gang activity meet with case workers and develop plans involving parents after being assessed by a case worker. The plans are developed to help students at-risk of being involved in gangs to achieve academic goals.
Lucky 7 Bike Program
The Lucky 7 Bike program is an anti gang program under the canopy of Sunnyside's Promise. This program has EVERYTHING to do with trust. While assembling and reassembling donated bikes (these boys and girls are between the ages of 8 and 18 and will eventually get to take home this bike) under the supervision of adults and other community leaders, we hope that sufficient trust is generated for kids to come forward if and when they are aware of ill events. They will come to you and us if they know WHO they are talking to, CAN take action. If you are passing the shop between 5:30 and 8:00PM on a Tuesday or Thursday just stop through and say, "Hi“ and introduce yourselves to the kids. This might be all that's necessary to help make Sunnyside just a little bit safer for everyone. For more information and to volunteer contact Dan White at 509-882-1131
Soccer Fields
Installation of the new soccer fields near the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center is underway. Although the soccer fields have been a work in progress and the ground has presented quite a few challenges. We are still working hard to build our dream brought to our attention by many of our youth. There have been several businesses and community members who have willingly "stepped up" to assist in the effort. All irrigatio nis in place & functioning. The beginning stages of grass are taking place. Grass is expected to planted in mid- October.
